enough to be Dual Citizens, some of these dual citizens have commented that they have given up renewing their NZ passports because of the reduced validity, as their British, US or Australian Passports are valid for 10 years. This is a shame because aside from the NZ government missing out on some extra passport revenue, many dual citizens are proud New Zealanders who don’t want to give up their New Zealand Citizenship.
But this need not be the case, Dual citizens have another lesser-known option available, they can apply to Immigration New Zealand to have their 10 year foreign passport endorsed with New Zealand Citizenship, this means, should you decide to return to NZ at a later stage, or even if you happen to be a dual citizen presently living in New Zealand, you can enjoy all the full rights accorded to the New Zealand Citizen you rightfully are!
Endorsement has added benefits
1. Dual Citizens on 10 year foreign passports only need to apply for one passport, instead of the three you would require over a 10 year period (2x NZ 5 year Passports, and 1x Foreign 10 year passport) thus saving time, money and hassle.
2. The fees for NZ citizenship endorsement in a foreign passport are around $130 for the first endorsement and $80.00 for subsequent foreign passport endorsements. This is substantially less than the 2x NZ passport fee you would have to apply for over a 10 year period (presently $248 for 2 NZ passports)
So if you are a dual citizen of a foreign country and New Zealand, this option may be for you.
